New Years Eve

This New Years Eve we decided to do it a little different. Josh and I usually travel with friends but we've had such a busy year we just wanted to relax. We rented a small cozy cabin in the Blue Ridge Mountains and the best part was that my Mom and brother got to come. Because we travel I never get to spend my Mom's birthday with her (Jan1) so it was special for all of us to be able to celebrate New Years and her birthday. Josh made dinner for us, he made baked potatoes, brocolli casserole and marinated the steaks, Jason cooked them. Mom and I just got to sit around and relax. We played a little guitar hero, watched the ball drop, sat by the fire and made dough boys, and had a wonderful time.

Ball drop

Jason had a goal of not making a serious face in any of the pictures, he succeeded.

They had these really cool lanterns, we were all pretty impressed by them and they came in handy.

Making dough boys, let me explain. This is a Brimer family tradition that I've finally been introduced too (we aren't around camp fires that often). Basically you find the perfect size stick, big enough to create a hole in the middle of dough. You take bisquit dough and wrap it around the stick then use the coals, not the flame, to cook the dough. It is a slow process but very much worth it. Once the dough has risen and is good and brown you pull it off the stick then use squeeze butter and jelly to fill the hole and voila! It is a very delicious treat that everyone must try.

Josh was Mr. Fire in the mountains, he took it very seriously and loved every minute of it. He would hike off and look for perfect firewood and put a lot of effort into making sure we had a good fire going the whole time.

However, it was hard to keep a pile of firewood around because Dozer LOVES playing with sticks. He always has but he's not usually around this many sticks at once and he was so funny to watch. Dozer def enjoyed his time in the mountains.

playing with sticks
still playing with sticks, well this is a huge log
This pretty much sums up the weekend, relaxing and cozy! If you can't tell he's curled up in a tiny chair. We aren't sure why he jumped up here and not on the couch but he was too cute to move.
